Seminar: Past information, present decisions, future outcomes

13th April 2016, 17:00 to 21:00, Seminar Room, Institute of Advanced Study, Palace Green, Professor Roland Fletcher (University of Sydney, Australia)

What moral obligations attend upon our knowledge of the human past and especially of new knowledge about the past? What logical tools are required to allow us to systematically comprehend and appraise the implications of our knowledge of the material content of the human past? Is the material an epiphenomenon or an “actor without intent”? The case study will be the implications of the new knowledge about past low-density settlement patterns and the relationship to the current and future issues of urbanism.
