Day event on the concept of activitism

16th May 2007, 10:00 to 16:00, School of Government and International Affairs

Concluding the Modern British Seminar Series for 2006/07 there History and Sociology departments are hosting a day event to explore the concept of activism.

Over the past few years there has been a considerable upsurge in interest in the study of party membership and activism. Contributions to the literature have been made by political scientists, sociologists and historians, amongst others. However, relatively little systematic attempt has been made to encourage a dialogue between the disciplines.

This workshop will bring together leading scholars from different disciplines in order to foster a greater understanding of contemporary research across the disciplines and to explore the potential for developing interdisciplinary perspectives. Speakers include:

Professor Paul Whiteley (Essex)
Professor Justin Fisher (Brunel)
Professor Karen Hunt (Keele)
Professor Andrew Thorpe (Exeter)
Dr Gidon Cohen (Durham)

Attendance at the workshop is free, and lunch will be provided. Booking is required
