Arrival into Durham

Accommodation

For those staying in University accommodation (Collingwood College) check-in is from 2.00pm on day of arrival. There is a 24 hour porter on duty for late arrivals.

Parking and travel within Durham

Most locations within Durham are accessible by walking. For those bringing a car to Durham please note that parking is extremely limited on the University Science Site where the conference sessions are being held. The nearest car park to the Science Site is ‘Howlands’ which has a Park and Ride bus scheme for approx. £2.00 per day. The nearest bus stop for the Calman Learning Centre is the New Inn pub.

Registration

The registration desk will be open from 10.30am to 12.30pm on Tuesday 12 July 2016 at the Calman Learning Centre. Click on the ‘Campus Map’ link above for location.

The conference opens formally at 1.00pm on Tuesday 12 July 2016 in the Calman Learning Centre.

Programme

The full conference programme will be made available online in due course. A hard copy will be provided for attendees on arrival at the conference.

Paper presentations

It is preferable to have the presentations in advance of the conference, and if possible these should be emailed to Linda Crowe by 06 July 2016; if material is received by this date it will be downloaded to the pertinent presentation venue and session. Alternatively, if presentation files are too large to email, please contact Linda Crowe and details will be provided to allow participants to connect to the Conference Dropbox Folder. In addition, presenters may bring any presentation material on memory stick each day for download before the daily programme begins. See times below. Presenters are asked to meet the IAS Secretary at these times on the 4th Floor of the Calman Learning Centre at the registration station:-,

  • Tuesday 12 July – between 10.30am - 12.00pm
  • Wednesday 13 July – 08.30am
  • Thursday 14 July – 08.30am

Refreshments and lunch

Tea and coffee will be available each day in the in the Calman Learning Centre at mid-morning and mid-afternoon breaks during the conference.

Buffet lunches will also be provided. Additional drinks, snacks and light refreshments can be purchased in the café on the ground floor of the Calman Learning Centre 9.00am - 4.00pm.

Conference Dinner: Wednesday 13 July

The cost of the conference dinner is included within the conference fee. If you wish to bring a guest to the conference dinner please contact the organisers on enquiries.ias@durham.ac.uk no later than 01 July 2016 to determine availability. Additional payment will be required prior to the conference start for additional guests. Unfortunately, if you do not inform us of your wish to bring a guest before the conference we will be unable to accommodate additional participants at the dinner.

Wi-Fi Access

Wireless internet access will be available throughout the conference period. Delegates will be provided with a temporary username and password at registration on 12 July.
