What is Automatic Enrolment?
Automatic Enrolment is a government initiative to encourage more people to have an income when they retire. All employers must assess staff each month and enrol those who are eligible into a workplace pension. Eligible staff are:
- Not already in a qualifying pension scheme (for Durham University staff these are USS or DUPS)
- Aged 22 or over
- Under the state pension age
- Earn more than £10,000 per year (current limit, this figure may change)
- Work or usually work in the UK
