Staff Credit Union

Durham University has entered into an agreement with NEFirst Credit Union, so that staff can benefit from flexible savings and loans, direct from salary.

All financial arrangements, queries and agreements are handled direct by NEFirst. NEFirst set up any salary deductions you agree with them, direct with the University.

This an extension of the University’s current collaboration with NEFirst, through which UK, self-financing students are able to apply for PostGraduate Tuition Fee Loans up to £7,000. More information on this is available through the Funded webpages.

NEFirst offer straightforward and secure financial services. They are independent, not for profit and FSCS regulated.

NEFirst Credit Union was formed by the merger of a number of smaller North East based Credit Unions who have been providing savings and loan accounts for their members for more than twenty years.

NEFirst have offices in Gateshead, Durham, North Shields and Birtley and a number of regular service / collection points.

All UK Credit Unions are only able to offer financial services to members. However, joining NEFirst is free for Durham University staff (the normal charge is £1).

Our lines are diverted to several mobile phones, please use this method of communication if you don’t have access to email to enable us to cope with the volumes of calls.

Members who rely on cash only withdrawals please contact us on 0330 055 3666 - Option 3. To discuss alternative arrangements.

Members who would like to pay into their savings or make loan payments we can do this over the phone by debit card.  If you need to discuss payment holidays, then contact us on - 0330 055 3666 - Option 4.
