Respect at Work and Study: Policies and Procedures

At Durham we believe our staff and students have the right to work, study and live within an environment free from bullying and harassment and we expect all our staff and students to be treated with dignity and respect.

Our policies:

  • Are available for staff and students that are experiencing bullying and/or harassment in their work, studies, accommodation or wider student experience
  • Describe the standards of behaviour that are expected by members of the university community
  • Provides the procedures for seeking resolution including reporting

Our Respect at Study Policy provides information on our approach to supporting students who have experienced bullying and/or harassment. It sets out our definitions of bullying and harassment as well as the procedures for resolution, including reporting.

Our Respect at Work Policy is an important part of our approach towards supporting the wellbeing of our employees. The purpose of it is to ensure that any behaviour that can be construed as harassment or bullying is prevented. Where it does occur, the policy aims to make sure that appropriate and effective action is taken to prevent any recurrence.

It also outlines the responsibilities of all staff and managers, and sets out how grievances under the policy are managed.
