The Durham Law School International Arbitration Practitioner Day Programme

Course Information

The Practitioner Day morning session focuses on best practices in written advocacy, including the preparation of pleadings, witness statements and expert reports. In the afternoon, the focus will shift to oral advocacy, offering guidance on delivering opening and closing statements and conducting effective cross-examination.

The programme will be delivered by a distinguished group of practitioners and academics, including John Fellas, Wendy Miles KC, Christian Leathley and Charles Kotuby. With over 100 years of combined experience in international commercial and investment treaty arbitration, they offer valuable insights into the practical aspects of arbitration. We are also honoured to welcome Sir Robin Knowles as our keynote speaker. Sir Robin gave one of the leading judgments on setting aside an arbitral award in The Federal Republic of Nigeria -v- Process & Industrial Developments Limited on 23 October 2023. 

In addition to the day’s programme, participants are warmly invited to attend the drinks reception and gala dinner on Thursday evening, held at St Chad’s College, Durham. This offers an excellent opportunity to engage informally with speakers and fellow attendees in a historic and convivial setting.
