Available studentships for the 2023/24 cohort will be added here throughout September, October and November 2022. Applications will open early November 2022.

These PhD studentships will provide for UK tuition fees and a full stipend at UK Research & Innovation recommended levels for each year of study. Funding is available for both UK citizens. Students must begin their research on 1st October 2023.

Named after the ancient ocean that closed to bring together England and Scotland, IAPETUS is a partnership that joins the leading research universities of Durham, Glasgow, Heriot Watt, Newcastle, St Andrews and Stirling, together with the British Antarctic SurveyBritish Geological Survey and the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, in a united approach to doctoral research and training the next generation of leaders in the science of the natural environment.
