Research Culture
Our Department provides many opportunities for postgraduate research students to engage with other scholars and methodologies as well as learning to present and discuss aspects of their own research at a higher level.
We host and support many activities which contribute to the Department’s world-leading research culture. These aim to promote research and study not only within the discipline of Classics and Ancient History but also as part of interdisciplinary conversations:
- regular Research Seminar with distinguished visiting speakers (open to the public and all students)
- regular Work-in-Progress Seminar (open to staff and all undergraduate and postgraduate students)
- regular Postgraduate Work in Progress Seminar (open to postgraduates only)
- the Department is home to the Centre for the Study of the Ancient Mediterranean and the Near East (CAMNE)
- the Department is home to the Durham Centre for Classical Reception (DCCR)
- the Department is home to the Durham Centre for Ancient and Medieval Philosophy (DCAMP)
