Employability

Postgraduate career options and employability

Postgraduate study at Durham provides an opportunity to develop a range of higher level research skills that can be transferred to the wider graduate job market. Durham University Classics and Ancient History MA and PhD students progress into a diverse range of careers and employment sectors. Some go on to academic careers - or utilise their degrees in areas relevant to their academic study such as heritage, arts, teaching, the civil service, publishing and journalism. Others progress into areas including banking, law, PR, third sector, consultancy, insurance and administration - with recent graduates working for the Home Office, Deloitte, Manchester United, CitiBank, NHS, Parliament and YouGov.

Employment development opportunities

The Careers, Employability and Enterprise Centre works closely with our department in facilitating student access to job and work experience opportunities, careers and employability events, employer workshops and presentations, skills programmes and tailored individual careers guidance. A dedicated careers advisor is available to support postgraduate Classics and Ancient History students individually and collectively. The Careers Centre provides events specifically for postgraduate students such as the annual PGT Conference and alumni-led panels showcasing a range of careers.
