EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT)

Durham Chemistry (along with Durham Physics and in partnership with the Universities of Leeds and Edinburgh), is home to the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Soft Matter for Formulation and Industrial Innovation (SOFI2). 

We are a partner with the University of Newcastle in the CDT in Molecular Sciences for Medicine (MoSMed).

We are in partnership with Northumbria University and the University of Newcastle in the CDT in Renewable Energy Northeast Universities (ReNU).

CDTs combine expertise from several academic institutions, industry and central facilities to deliver a comprehensive training programme and a wide choice of research projects from across a wide range of science. They provide industrially integrated post-graduate training in research, enterprise and innovation for future industrial leaders.

  • Soft Matter & Interfaces (SOFI) CDT

    The SOFI CDT combines interdisciplinary expertise from three universities, industry and central facilities to deliver a comprehensive training programme and a wide choice of research projects from across the full range of science.

    The Molecular Sciences for Medicine (MoSMed) CDT is a joint venture between Newcastle and Durham Universities which provides training for PhD students, in a single centre, focussed on research at the interface of chemistry and medicine.
