Ehmke Pohl at Conference

Ehmke Pohl and Paul Denny lead prestigious international workshop on neglected tropical diseases

As part of our GCRF network on Neglected Tropical Diseases, Paul Denny and Ehmke Pohl were invited by COMSTECH, the Ministerial standing committee on Scientific and Technical Cooperation of the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) (if you want to know more press here: https://comstech.org/comstech-in-brief/). COMSTECH is led by the President of Pakistan with the current Coordinator General, Prof Iqbal Choudhari, our long-standing collaborator (if you want to learn more, click here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad_Iqbal_Choudhary).

Ehmke and Paul were invited to give a workshop of their joint work with groups from Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, India and Pakistan. Ehmke and Paul had worked on the identification of new potential drug targets, the development of new drugs for existing targets, and more recently on the diagnosis of Leishmaniasis. Since the end of the funding period of GCRF the work has been supported by the Medical Research Council, the Engineering Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), MoSMed CDT and the Open Lab Foundation (GSK). The trip, and hence this workshop were also supported by the Biochemical Society and a successful seedcorn grant from Durham University.
