Customer Led Network Revolution: Briefing Notes
The Customer-Led Network Revolution (CLNR) Project was completed in December 2014. It was the UK’s biggest smart grid project and at the forefront of the move towards a low-carbon economy.
The £54 million scheme was an exciting collaboration between academia and business led by Northern Powergrid, the electricity distribution network operator for the North East and Yorkshire. The project was part-funded by the Office of the Gas and Electricity Markets’ (OFGEM) Low Carbon Networks Fund (LCNF). The other lead business partners in the project were British Gas and EA Technology. Durham Energy Institute provided academic rigour to the project.
The project carried out research into a combination of novel network technologies, alongside new commercial arrangements and customer flexibility propositions. Find out more about the CLNR smart grid project.
