London geothermal energy symposium set to highlight growing momentum in the UK Geothermal Industry

The generation of geothermal heat and power will be the topic of a conference organised jointly by the BritGeothermal Research Partnership managed at Durham University and the Geothermal Energy Company, EGS Energy Ltd.
The conference will bring together policy makers, academics and industry representatives from around the UK and Europe to provide a snapshot of the new deep geothermal developments in the UK and to highlight the steps forward being taken by this clean energy industry.
Among the speakers at The Fourth London Geothermal Symposium: The Launch of BritGeothermalwill be Professor Jon Gluyas, Dean of Knowledge Exchange and Impact at Durham University, representatives from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and Roy Baria, Technical Director of EGS Energy and adviser to the US Department of Energy on geothermal.

Dr Charlotte Adams, Research Manager for the BritGeothermal Partnership, Durham University, said: “It is the right time to launch the BritGeothermal Partnership - several new geothermal energy projects have been announced for the UK over the past few months. This conference will deliver sessions on the generation of heat and power from UK geothermal resources with case studies from outside the UK and provide a meeting of minds from academia, industry and government.”

Durham Energy Institute awarded Charlotte Adams small-grant funding last year to support the new BritGeothermal Research Partnership and undertake research into "Assessing the Economics of Exploiting Low Enthalpy Deep Geothermal Energy Resources".
