Jack Rowbotham (PhD student, Chemistry) has been awarded the RSC Westminster Fellowship. This award enables the student to work for three months in the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) with the responsibility of keeping members of both houses of parliament informed on matters of current scientific importance.

Jack will take part in the writing of concise, peer reviewed reports (POSTnotes) as well as providing technical assistance to relevant select committees as they go about their enquiries. Given Jack's interest in energy as a member of the Durham Energy Institute CDT (Centre for Doctoral Training), this opportunity will enable him to work closely with The Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and experience first-hand how cutting edge research influences government policy.
