Durham Energy Institute

Durham University awarded 2014 Probabilistic Modelling Applied to Power Systems conference

(27 June 2012)

PMAPS is one of the leading international conferences in the field of power systems. Within power systems, probability and risk analysis are of ever-increasing importance due to the need to integrate a large capacity of renewables, and the need to take decisions using risk analysis rather than more traditional deterministic heuristics.

The award of the conference recognises Durham’s leading position in this field – members of the organising committee who prepared the bid are (Engineering and Computing Sciences unless stated otherwise): Dr. Chris Dent (General Chair of PMAPS 2014 and bid leader; research field probabilistic risk analysis), Prof. Janusz Bialek (Technical Chair; system economics and stability), Dr. Simon Blake (distribution system reliability), Dr. Paddy McNabb (system stability), Prof. Peter Tanver (reliability of wind turbines) and Prof. Phil Taylor (smartgrids and industry applications), Prof. Frank Coolen (statistics and reliability analysis), Stina Maynard (Event Durham).  The conference will take place in 7-10 July 2014 in Durham.
