DEI Energy Photo Competition
ENTRY TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Durham Energy Institute (Durham University/DEI) invites you to submit entries to our energy photography competition, which will run alongside the annual research symposium on 29 September 2017. This is an opportunity for any professional, amateur or budding photographers out there who are interested in documenting energy in the world around them, and is open to anyone.
WHO MAY ENTER
The competition is open to any photographer of any nationality of any age.
WHAT TO ENTER
We are seeking photographers to send original photographs that represent energy systems integration and/or energy production on a global, national and local scale.
To be eligible a photograph must be original, minor adjustments, including spotting, dodging and burning, sharpening, contrast and slight colour adjustment or the digital equivalents are acceptable. If the judges in their sole discretion, determine that a photographer has altered his or her photo, the judges reserve the right to disqualify the photograph.
Please note Where your photo includes a recognisable person, you must confirm and warrant you have express permission from that individual person.
HOW TO ENTER
Please send your submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org by 12 noon on 22 September 2017 in any suitable image format (.jpg, .gif, .png etc.). We do not accept submissions in hard copy via the post.
There is no limitation on the number of photographs a contestant can submit, but we do not accept more than one contestant per e-mail address.
All photographs submitted must include your name (and if under 16 years of age at the date of submission an address and telephone number). Please also provide the following details; location, date and time (if known); which aspect of energy production/integration the picture represents. All personal information submitted with the photographs will be handled in accordance with the current data protection legislation. The judges reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to disqualify incomplete entries.
By entering the competition, entrants retains copyright to his or her images, but grants Durham University/ DEI a right to use their photograph under licence without the need for prior permission or additional payment or consideration. Each photographer grants to Durham University/DEI the right to use their respective submitted images on a royalty-free basis, world-wide and in perpetuity. This is a non-exclusive licence to Durham University/DEI the right to copy, display, distribute, reproduce, and creative derivative works of the submitted images, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or subsequently developed, for all Durham University/DEI non-commercial and commercial purposes. Where possible, and in its sole discretion, Durham University/DEI will attribute the image/photograph to the respective photographer.
Photo entries will be judged based on the compelling story about energy, originality, artistic merit and dramatic impact. The photographs will be voted on by symposium attendees and speakers.
Prizesof £100 (1st), £50 (2nd) and £25 (3rd) will be given for the photographs with the highest votes and will be published in the next issue of the Durham Energy Institute Review magazine.
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
All entrants hold Durham University/DEI harmless from and against all claims of any nature arising in connection with entrant’s participation in the contest. Durham University/DEI is not responsible for incomplete or misdirected entries, technical or network malfunctions or failures, or causes beyond their control. Entrants are solely responsible for their entries. Entrants may not submit materials that introduce any software viruses, or other programs designed to damage software, hardware or telecommunications equipment.
Photographs that contain any content, element, or material that violates a third party’s intellectual property rights, including but not limited copyrights, trademarks, patents, trade secrets, logos, contract and licensing rights, rights of publicity or privacy, moral rights, or any other intellectual property rights are not eligible.
Photographs must not contain any content, material or element that displays any third party advertising, slogan, logo, trademarks or otherwise indicates a sponsorship or endorsement by a third party, commercial entity or that is not within the spirit of the contest, as determined by the judges in their sole discretion.
Photographs must not be or include content which is derogatory, offensive, threatening, defamatory, disparaging, libelous or contain any content that is in appropriate, indecent, sexual, profane, indecent, tortuous, slanderous, discriminatory in any way, or that promotes hatred or harm against any group or person, or otherwise does not comply with the theme and spirit of the contest as determined by the judges in their sole discretion.
The contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law. Durham University/DEI reserves the right to cancel the contest at any time or modify these rules in its sole discretion. All entrants agree to comply with and be bound by the decision of the Judges on all matters associated with the contest and waive all rights to judicial recourse in the case of any disputes.
