Why Offshore Wind Energy? DONG Energy seminar

15th March 2016, 14:00 to 15:30, E245, Engineering & Computing Sciences, Andrew Henderson, Lead Project Engineer at DONG Energy and Hugh Yendole, Asset Portfolio Manager at DONG Energy

Andrew Henderson is Lead Project Engineer at DONG Energy.

Hugh Yendole is Asset Portfolio Manager at DONG Energy working in asset management of operational windfarms.

In the seminar they will discuss three different dimensions of offshore wind energy:

  • Political / regulatory context which shape wind farm design
  • Comparison of European Experience
  • Innovative technology such as floating foundations

Andrew and Hugh both have a long previous history of working in wind energy in both industry and academia. Andrew has worked on European R& D projects as well as in the UK context. Hugh spent time in Texas working on US onshore wind as well as onshore and offshore projects in the UK, including Teesside before joining DONG Energy around five years ago.

DONG Energyis the market leader in offshore wind and has built more offshore wind farms than any other company in the world to date. The UK is one of DONG’s primary markets for developing offshore wind and DONG invested around £6 billion in the UK to date, helping develop the secure, low carbon energy supplies the UK needs. DONG Energy recently became a key strategic partner for Durham University.
