Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI)

12th May 2016, 13:00 to 14:30, CLC406, Derman Christopherson Room, Calman Learning Centre, Margaret Sutherland

This event is the first step in collaboration between the DEI and BIS/UK EITI (Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative). The purpose of this workshop is to discuss data published under UK EITI and its utility to academics. UK EITI will be seeking feedback from DEI members on how they should publish the data, what data is published and how it could be used.

The format of the workshop will be:

1 A brief explanation of UK EITI and examples of EITI
2 A round-table discussion of the possible (academic) uses of this data
3 Suggestions on improvements to UK EITI – what should the reporting cover?

UK EITI’s first report is due to be published mid-April 2016, so participants will have the chance to familiarise themselves with the report prior to the workshop. An information pack with an introduction to UK EITI and some examples of data reported will also be circulated at the workshop.

Margaret Sutherland is the head of the Secretariat for the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in the UK based at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). She works with a Multi-Stakeholder Group, which consists of representatives from industry, civil society and Government, to implement EITI in the UK.
