Time-dependent probabilistic analysis (TDPA): A Monte Carlo simulation approach that takes account of daily and seasonal variation of incident frequency.
Simplified reliability modelling using sub-systems: This analytical, simplified approach groups the different electrical network components into sub-systems, and only considers the sub-systems in the reliability calculation. It is capable of calculating system-level, technical performance indices for utility-scale networks, and requiring much less effort than detailed software models.
Johanette van der Merwe graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 2004. She started her career with Eskom, the national electricity utility in South Africa, in 2005. In 2008 she joined Eon Consulting, were she did consulting for the major Distribution utilities in South Africa. In 2014 she joined ETP, were she is currently consulting in the liquid fuels space.
Trevor Gaunt has over 40 years of experience with an equipment manufacturer, electricity utility, consulting engineer, and in teaching and research. He has worked in many African countries and undertaken projects as varied as electrification, transmission planning and tariffs studies. He is presently an Emer. Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Cape Town.
