Thinking With Oil: The First Annual Public Lecture in Environments and Visual Culture

29th October 2014, 18:00 to 20:00, Calman Learning Centre, Ken Wade Lecture Theatre , Professor Imre Szeman

A lecture by Professor Imre Szeman, Canada Research Chair at The University Of Alberta.

The absence of energy from accounts of contemporary power and the formation of subjects has arisen because energy has constituted a major blindspot in social and political theory. In this lecture, Szeman redresses this deficiency by insisting on the missing link between freedom and fuel, philosophy and petroleum.

The event is co-hosted by the Centre for Visual Arts and Culture and Durham Energy Institute, on Wednesday 29 October 2014 at 6.00pm, followed by a reception at 7.00pm
