Maggie is Low Carbon Economic Development Manager for Durham County Council, with responsibility for energy management, renewable energy and energy efficiency installations across the Council’s land and buildings as well as for County-wide policy on sustainable development and low carbon growth. She has led the Council’s Sustainability Team since 1995, supporting local, national and international partnership initiatives.
She was founder and Chair of Darlington Environmental Watch, an early environmental campaign group, from 1989 until 1996 and was a part-time lecturer for Durham University throughout the 1990s. She was a member of the Ofwat Customer Service Committee from 1990 to 1999 and a Non-Executive Director of Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Trust from 2002 unti 2009.
Since November 2013, Maggie has also been working with the North East Local Enterprise Partnership to write the European Structural and Investment Funds Strategy for the ring-fenced £70 million allocation for the Low Carbon Economy and to develop a pipeline on innovative low carbon initiatives across the region.
She has recently helped to establish the North East Sustainable Growth Advisory Group, the County Durham Climate Change Partnership and the North East Regional Energy Officers Group and she sits on project steering groups for a range of innovative low carbon projects across the region.
She is passionate about tackling climate change, partnership working and chocolate.
