Helen Goodman

Helen Goodman was MP for Bishop Auckland 2005-2014. She was a Minister in the Government between 2007 and 2010. She was on the Treasury Select Committee 2015-17; Public Accounts Committee 2005-07 and on the Committee for the ground breaking Climate Change Act of 2008. She initiated Parliamentary debates to mandate ministers prior to the Paris summit and on Geothermal Energy. Latterly, she has been a shadow Foreign Office Minister with special responsibility for China, the Far East, the Americas and Polar regions.

Prior to a spell working in the voluntary sector, Helen worked in HM Treasury 1980-96. She held numerous posts including working on the energy desk in 1983, 1985 and 1989-90. She also negotiated in both the EU and OECD on behalf of the UK government. Her final role was as Head of Strategy. In 1990-91, she was seconded to the office of the Czechoslovak Prime Minister as an energy adviser.

Helen first became interested in environment issues as a school child in 1973! She was educated at Somerville College, Oxford where she gained an MA in PPE, and Lady Manners School, Bakewell.
