Miss Karen Blundell
Telephone: 45013
Email: karen.blundell@durham.ac.uk
The Bursar is a member of the College’s Senior Management Team - a 50% role responsible for the day to day non academic College operations.
I lead a team of Operational Managers who are responsible for Housekeeping, Reception, Portering, Health & Safety, Security, Maintenance, Catering & Events and Accounts. The Bursar also holds the personal licence for the Bar.
As well as the day to day running of the College the operational team are also responsible for ensuring standards within their departments are set, maintained and are constantly reviewed and improved within the physical and budgetary constraints.
The operations team also works closely with the Junior Common room (JCR) and JCR Executive to support student events and new innovations such as the current refurbishment of the JCR – 2013 - as well as supporting the main annual College events such as The Fashion Show, Collingwood Day and the Spring Ball. We also support the MCR and SCR.
Although Collingwood is primarily & most importantly a home for our students we are also one of the main university trading colleges. We support the wider University strategy by hosting internal events during term time, as well as during the 3 vacations.
As well as being Bursar of Collingwood and Grey College, I am also a member of several University Committees including: Green Travel, Fair-Trade, I also Chair the Divisional Housekeepers’ Group.
In my spare time I train my Border Collies and compete with them at local agility shows. I use reward based training systems and am always happy to talk, often endlessly, about dog training and motivation. I love walking especially in the Lakes and have recently re discovered my love of cycling.
