Chemistry Undergraduate Admissions

The third year of the BSc degree contains a literature survey dissertation (10,000 words) on an aspect of chemistry that particularly interests you. You will present a written report and will give a 20 minute oral presentation on your results to a small group of your colleagues and staff.

Your dissertation supervisor will discuss your report with you and give you feedback on possible ways to improve both your writing and oral presentation. These are key transferable skills that employers are looking for.

Students in the third year of the MChem degrees carry out a shorter and more focussed literature survey, presented in the form of a 3,000 word perspective. This is also assessed by an oral presentation to a group of your colleagues and staff. This activity provides a foundation in scientific writing in preparation for the final year project report.
