The best way to find out more about living and studying at Durham University is to come on one of our pre-application open days. We run pre-application open days in both Durham City and at Queen's Campus.
Pre-application open days for 2016 entry
The university ran campus-wide pre-application open days at its Durham-City campus on Monday 22nd June, Saturday 27th June, and will deliver a third open day on Saturday 26th September 2015. The events provide an opportunity for those interested in applying to Durham to visit and see academic departments, colleges and central facilities, including sports facilities. There is likely to be a limited amount of university run accommodation available. The event will require pre-booking, and will be managed by the university's event organisation, Event Durham. Details of the September date will appear in early August at https://www.dur.ac.uk/undergraduate/visit/
There will be an opportunity to meet chemistry academic staff, including the admissions team, and to view some of our teaching and research facilities.
In addition, the university frequently runs campus tours.
Visit day for 2016 entry
For those who are unable to attend the main open day, the department will be holding a smaller scale visit day on Wednesday 26th August 2015. This will take the format of a talk about Durham, chemistry, the course structure and the admissions process followed by a short tour of the department. There will be opportunities to ask questions and the day will finish with a visit to one of the colleges (usually St Mary's, Collingwood or van Mildert). Many colleges offer Bed & Breakfast facilities during the vacations, allowing you to see a typical student room; please make your own arrangements direct with a college. The visit day will be held in the Department of Chemistry starting at 2.00 pm and will last about 2 hours (plus 1 hour for the college visit).
Please note that due to the popularity of these visit days we ask that only one person accompanies you to the Department.
Bookings for the chemistry visit day may be made by sending an e-mail giving your name and the school you attend to email@example.com.
Potential applicants may visit at other times between June and September 2015, usually a Wednesday morning at 11:30, but please contact us in advance
The chemistry admissions team are unable to receive visits from potential applicants between October and February each year. We strongly encourage interested candidates to make an application, and if you receive an offer then you will be invited to a post-offer vist day in March.
