First class subject choice

Chemistry is the central science. You'll study how societally and technologically important substances from pharmaceuticals to superconductors are designed and made. You'll discover the fascinating phenomena that occur in bulk materials and their origin at the atomic scale. A degree in chemistry will equip you for a range of careers.

First class Department

The Department has been placed in the top three in the 2014 subject league tables published by The Independent newspaper. It is extremely well-equipped, with modern laboratories, extensive state-of-the-art instrumentation and world-class facilities.

First class research-led teaching

Our standard of teaching was awarded Excellent, the highest possible rating, in the most recent teaching quality assessment by the Higher Education Funding Council, and a number of our members of academic staff have received University awards for Excellence in Teaching. You will be taught by internationally-renowned academics with a wide range of expertise. This ensures you can choose from a variety of optional modules allowing you to follow a programme of study designed to suit your individual interests.

Over two thirds of our research was assessed as being world-leading or internationally excellent in the latest research assessment exercise. You'll have the opportunity to work alongside these research leaders.

Our undergraduate employment record is amongst the best in Britain with over 95% of our graduates finding employment within 6 months of graduation. This reflects both the quality of our teaching and our commitment to producing well-rounded, employable graduates. 95% of our graduates in employment are in graduate-level jobs.
