Rising Stars

(21 June 2013)

Sarah, Bethany and Sophie

Congratulations to Sophie Scott, Beth Orrell and Sarah Armitage who represented the Department at this year’s “Rising Stars” research symposium on Thursday 20th June. Sophie and Beth are graduating this year from the BSc programme and Sarah from the M. Chem. programme.

Sophie presented her “Chemistry and Society” poster on “The Graphene Dream”, and was awarded the overall poster prize. Congratulations Sophie! Beth presented a poster on “Smart Hydrogels for Insulin Delivery”. Both posters will be displayed in the corridor outside the physical teaching lab for the next year.

Sarah gave an excellent talk on the synthesis and properties of supramolecular gels, based on her research project with Professor Steed. She wowed the audience with her enthusiasm for the area and with her answers to questions. One of Durham’s PVC’s was witnessed raising his eyebrows in admiration at the depth of her answer to a question on polymorph characterisation!
