We offer lifelong support to all Durham graduates, regardless of what stage you are at in your career. This includes access to careers advice, as well as many of our online resources. Our website is open access and contains a wide variety of helpful information. Most information in the Students section is also applicable to graduates. We also offer a range of other services that you might be interested in.
After graduation – what next?
If you are graduating this year, have a look at our Class of 2020 Careers and Alumni services after graduation booklet.
As graduate user of Careers & Enterprise you can access one-to-one support, current vacancies and careers events. You can register as a graduate user on the Student Services Portal. If you graduated less recently or you use a different name to the one under which you were registered as a student, we might need to ask you for proof that you are a Durham graduate, like a copy or photo of your degree certificate.
As soon as your registration has been approved you will receive a password that will enable you to use the system. It is important that you login via the 'Graduate Login & Registration' option within the Student Services Portal as the other login links will not work.
If you are studying a postgraduate course at Durham, you will be automatically registered as a student on the system and should log in via the student login link.
You can also sign up to our vacancy mailing list to receive weekly bulletins. This is an effective way to stay informed of opportunities with organisations that want to target Durham students and graduates. The bulletins are sent on a Thursday and you can subscribe or unsubscribe at any time. Subscribing to the vacancy mailing list should generate an email that you can send to subscribe. If you have any problems with this please follow the guidance at the bottom of this page.
We offer the same level and type of support to Durham graduates as we do to our current students, including face-to-face, email and Skype/telephone appointments. You can also email us with your enquiry, including for CV and application form feedback. This support is available throughout the academic year, though in busier periods when demand is high we may not be able to offer an appointment immediately.
If you would like to make an appointment please call us on 0191 334 1437 to arrange an appointment in advance of travelling to Durham – it is quicker to arrange an appointment over the phone however we can arrange an appointment via email to firstname.lastname@example.org if necessary.
Career planning and application resources
You can find a lot of helpful information and resources for all stages of career planning and job applications on our website. Our resources on career sectors and applications are a great place to start.
There are other careers services that might be able to offer you advice, guidance and resources. The National Careers Service, Careers Wales, Skills Development Scotland and NIDirect Careers offer help to those living in the United Kingdom.
You could also contact a local University careers centre to enquire if they can offer any help or access to careers events.

As well as your career prospects, Durham can help you with building up your personal and professional networks, continuing your learning, and managing your professional development.
Members of the Durham alumni network can also take advantage of social and networking events all over the world as well as a host of other exclusive benefits including continued JSTOR access, future learning opportunities, and local discounts for when you come back to visit Durham. Supporting future GraDUates
If you would like to share your insight of the professional world with current students, we welcome offers from alumni wishing to take part in careers events. If your employer would like to recruit Durham students and graduates for work experience, placements, or graduate roles, please get in touch with our Employer Services Team.
Fifteen months after graduating you will be contacted by email or phone to ask you to complete the Graduate Outcomes survey. This is a national survey capturing the activities and perspectives of graduates. Please complete it, as the responses to this survey will be crucial in allowing current and future students to make informed choices about what they can do with their degree.
