Social Enterprise Live Project (SELP)

Supported by Santander Universities UK, Careers & Enterprise run Social Enterprise Live Project (SELP), a unique work experience scheme, aimed at supporting and developing local social enterprises. The overall objective of the scheme is to offer a ‘live’ project-based placement for a student within a social enterprise. Working to defined, agreed objectives developed in partnership with a social enterprise, the live project would be beneficial for both the social enterprise (to assist with their strategic planning and future development objectives) and beneficial for the student (in terms of their entrepreneurial skills development and employability potential).

Embedding an evaluative element within the project process also enables reflection of identified outcomes for both the organisation and the student’s personal and employability development. Funding from Santander Universities enables students to be paid for the work experience opportunity.

This project offers a unique opportunity for students to develop:

  • Project management skills
  • An insight into social enterprise
  • Employability skills

In previous years students have undertaken projects related to :

  • Fundraising
  • Development of educational training materials
  • Event planning
  • Marketing and social media development
  • Consumer research for bid documents
  • Research for funding proposals
