The Multidisciplinary Centre for Doctoral Training provides innovative training and support for PhD students from many different departments across the university.

Energy is a complex multidisciplinary topic and finding effective solutions to the world's energy-related problems requires new insights and new approaches. To achieve this the UK will require a critical mass of versatile individuals who have been trained in a wide range of skills.

Introduction

The reliance of society on energy means that this sector can offer graduates an exciting, rewarding and secure career choice with many opportunities for diversification. On completion of their doctoral studies, Durham energy CDT researchers have progressed to a range of different leadership positions within the energy community in the UK and internationally.

The Energy CDT is the longest-running CDT at Durham University. In addition, to support from the Energy CDT, students have also been working on research projects supported by a range of energy-related companies including Alstom, CE Electric, NERC, EPSRC, Chevron, Orsted, Shell, Infoterra, Scottish Power, Jordan Energy and Mining, Technical Fibres Ltd., Thomas Swan, Infineum, ESRC, ONE and Durham University. Each student is able to participate in the Energy CDT programme of training and professional support to develop their skills and knowledge for future energy-related careers.
