New Parasitology Research Theme for N8 Partnership
(23 November 2011)
A new Research Theme, led by Durham University, has been created within the N8 Partnership. The theme covers all aspects of Parasitology and will bring together over 40 academics from all N8 Universities.
N8 is a partnership of the 8 research universities in the North of England - Durham, Lancaster, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield and York (http://www.n8research.org.uk/) . N8 aims to maximise the impact of this research base by identifying and co-ordinating powerful research teams and collaborations across the North of England. To support the collaborations, N8 creates teams with a critical mass of world class academics. These teams form a network of virtual centres of science and innovations excellence.
The N8 Executive Management Group is comprised of Pro-Vice Chancellors from each N8 University and is responsible for developing N8 Strategy and new ideas for research themes, and collaborations. At its September 2010 meeting, the PVC Group approved an application from Dr Mark Booth, acting Deputy Director of the WRI, to create a network for Parasitologists across the N8 patch. There are over 40 tenured academics and dozens of post-doctoral researchers and postgraduate students whose research interests cover many disciplines within the field of parasitology. The network will serve to facilitate collaborations between N8 institutions, to promote the output of network members, and to advocate for parasitology to be maintained as a subject area in both research and teaching. The hub of the network will be based at the Wolfson Research Institute and will be co-ordinated by Dr Booth.
