Applied Stats Unit Workshop - Basic Graphical Methods for Exploring Social Survey Data

12:30pm to 2:30pm, Seminar Room, F009

This workshop will be run by:  Dr Keming Yang, Lecturer, School of Applied Social Sciences

The aim of this workshop is to introduce some basic graphical methods to postgraduate students and other researchers who are analysing or planning to analyse social survey data.  After highlighting a few basic principles of using graphs in statistical analysis, we shall go through some scenarios in which different graphical tools could be used for exploring and representing the relations between three or even more variables. Special attention will be paid to relations among categorical variables or between metrical and categorical variables. Illustrations and examples will be produced by drawing on the data collected in European Social Surveys. No requirement on previous experience or statistical background for attending this workshop, but please note that it is not a training session for using any software package for producing the graphs used in the presentation.
