The Future of Sociology: A 'Question Time' Styled panel debate

5:30pm to 7:00pm, The Kingsley Barrett Room, Calman Learning Centre, Durham University Science Site, Stockton Road, Durham DH1 3LE

Four world-leading social scientists will explore issues, debates and controversies on the future of sociology, in response to questions posed by audience members.

The event will feature four visiting Fellows of the Institute of Advanced Study at Durham University as panellists, and will be chaired by Professor Roy Boyne of the School of Applied Social Sciences at Durham. The panellists and chair are highly distinguished sociologists who draw upon a wide range of trans-disciplinary theories and interdisciplinary influences in their work, notably in the fields of art history, business studies, cultural policy, environmental studies, global studies, human geography, international relations, philosophy, political science, religious studies, and science and technology studies.

The evening promises to provide an illuminating, lively, and wide-ranging debate, exploring sociology's future with regard, for example, to interdisciplinary connections, new theoretical developments, methodological innovations, the changing environment for higher education, and wider transformations in global economics, politics and culture.

The event will be structured along the lines of the popular BBC TV programme, 'Question Time'.
