I Was Glad - Durham University Chamber Choir

4th June 2012, 13:15 to 14:30, Durham Cathedral

Durham University Chamber Choir will perform in Durham Cathedral as part of its lunchtime concert series singing a programme of music to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The programme will include music with a royal connection including:
Britten - Choral Dances (from ‘Gloriana’)
Parry – Blest Pair of Sirens
Handel – My Heart is Inditing
Purcell – I Was Glad
Admission is free and all are welcome.

The ensemble, which comprises twenty of the finest singers from across the university, has established a reputation for stylish and exciting performances.

The choir sings several concerts each year in Durham and the surrounding area; recent highlights have included a concert with Chamber Choir alumni, singing Tallis’ ‘Spem in Alium’ and Parry’s ‘Songs of Farewell’, as well as James MacMillan’s masterpiece ‘Seven Last Words from the Cross’, in Durham Cathedral last year. In addition to its concert series, the choir is preparing for a number of exciting projects in the coming months, including its tour to Germany in the summer and ‘Music on the River’; one of its annual favourites where music is performed in rowing boats whilst the audience picnics on the riverbank.
