Getting outdoors

Our outdoor play area

We have a large, secure, well-equipped outdoor area, which the children are able to use all year round, in line with guidelines from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This ensures that your child will benefit from the full range of outdoor learning experiences, and get lots of fresh air and outdoor exercise. Outdoor play is essential for all aspects of a child’s development. It can provide children with experiences which enable them to develop intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically.

Our outdoor play spaces

The outside area (with safety surfaces) has all the equipment needed to safely provide challenging and exciting play areas for climbing equipment, sand and water play equipment, quiet reflective areas and busy moving play areas. There is also a growing/digging area with tubs, and vegetable and flower beds.

There is free flow inside and outside to allow children to take their learning outside and cater for different learning styles.

Nursery staff regularly take children on local outings and trips, to widen their understanding and experience of their local community and the world around them. This may be a trip to the local park, or to the local shops, or it may occasionally be a longer trip to an appropriate attraction (e.g. children’s farm). We require parents’/carers’ permission to take children on such trips, and at all times staff to child ratios are maintained or increased and all necessary safety measures and risk assessments are carried out in advance.
