What is the Sutton Trust Summer School Programme?
The Sutton Trust Summer School is an excellent opportunity for young people to find out more about life at university, develop their subject knowledge and skills whilst also meeting new people and taking part in a varied programme of guidance and social activities. There are a range of Universities which take part in the Sutton Trust Summer School programme, of which Durham is one. For more information about what is on offer for participants, we recommend checking the Sutton Trust Website.
Taking place in Durham City, the Summer School is hosted in one of Durham’s colleges and is the perfect venue for your child to spend a week over the summer holidays. With purpose built student accommodation, a dedicated team of university staff members and all meals provided, the week is completely free for students to attend. Travel to and from the summer school is arranged and provided for free!
Led by high-ranking Departments, you child will be taught by the University's academic staff at the equivalent of First-Year Undergraduate level, which is a perfect taster of what studying at university could be like.
Our dedicated summer school team, led by members of the Access and Engagement Team, are on hand 24 hours a day to support students and to ensure that they have everything they need during their time at Durham. Each student will receive a mentor when they arrive at Durham, who will be a current Durham student. They will look after them during the week.
Students are grouped together in ‘mentor groups’ which are an excellent way to meet new people and share the summer school experience. Academic sessions are complemented with a variety of exciting social activities on an evening so there is always something to do.
In order to comply with Data Protection legislation, we are required to seek express permission from an applicant before we disclose information about them or their application to any third party. We will be unable to communicate with schools, friends or family members of applicants until express permission has been given. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
