Visits to Academic Departments and Colleges

Update for applicants and offer holders: July 2020

Here at Durham we’re working really hard to get our campus ready for the start of term on Monday 28 September 2020.

If you’re an offer holder with us, or are thinking of applying to Durham for entry in 2021, it’s important to remember that our campus is still closed to visitors. We know you might really want to come and see the University and the City, especially if you’ve never been to Durham before, but UK Government advice is still to stay at home as much as possible. So until the campus is open, or we are advised that restrictions are being lifted further by the Government, please do not travel to Durham and do your bit to control the spread of Covid-19.

We highly recommend visiting us at one of our Pre-application Open Days or joining us for a Discover Durham Tours as these really are the best ways to get the most from a visit to the University. Alternatively you may wish to undertake a self-guided tour, a great way to familiarise yourself with Durham city.

Some of our Colleges offer the opportunity to visit outside of these organised events. You can use the links below to contact them directly to arrange a visit. Unfortunately if they are not listed below then they are unable to accommodate visitors other than during our events. This may be for a variety of reasons but generally it is to respect the privacy of current students resident in the College. Each college is unique in the layout of their buildings and it is this that restricts the access to colleges outside of advertised activities.

Where possible departments are keen to accommodate visitors outside of the Open Days and Discover Durham Tours, however they are restricted to staff and facility availability. We ask visitors to fill out an enquiry form, with a minimum of 6 weeks notice prior to your intended visit date. We will then do our best to accommodate your request. When emailing please provide your proposed

  • visit date(s)
  • visit time
  • department.

Please do not attend without a prior arranged appointment as we cannot guarantee you will be seen.
