The Weldon le Huray Scholarship for Music

Few universities are so successful at providing the right environment for both the academic and music potential of its undergraduate students to flourish.

To help re-inforce our commitment to providing the best possible access to this environment, Durham University is pleased to launch the Weldon – le Huray Scholarships programme. The programme provides opportunities for home students from lower-income households to:

  • Demonstrate exceptional potential in the field of Music

Two scholarships are available for applicants planning to commence their studies at Durham in 2019-20. Each scholarship is worth £4,000 per academic year.

Prospective applicants must:

  • Stage 1: ensure they submitted an academic application to Durham University before the UCAS deadline (15th January 2019)

  • Stage 2: submit an online scholarship application form by 30th March 2019 including the following:

  • Personal Statement of no more than 1,000 words explaining why you should be awarded a Weldon - le Huray Scholarship for Music

  • 2 different pieces of music of approximately 3 minutes in length uploaded via Youtube
  • An independant reference of no more than 1,000 words from a suitable adult e.g. a teacher at your school or a coach, explaining why you are suitable to be awarded a Weldon - le Huray Scholarship for Music. The reference should outline indicators of exceptional musical achievement or potential. References should be sent directly from the referee to Your referee should submit the reference on letter headed paper, to contain the referee's name, position, contact details and your full name.
