Marsden Scholarship


The Faculty of Science is delighted to announce the introduction of the Marsden Scholarships, which have been made possible by the generous support of our alumni community.

The Marsden Scholarships will support four talented students each year who are in financial need, from currently underpresented backgrounds who are also studying an undergraduate programme within the Faculty of Science.

Household Income

Applicants must:

  • have a household income below £42,875 (2019-20 rates) based on an assessment carried out by Student Finance England;
  • have applied to study a three or four year undergraduate programme in the Faculty of Science at Durham University.

Applicants must also meet one of the following :

  • Being of Black, Asian or minority ethnicity;
  • Being female, when applying to study within a department in which females are under-represented (Chemistry; Computer Science; Earth Sciences; Engineering; Mathematical Sciences; Natural Sciences and Physics);
  • Have spent time in care in the last three months;
  • Have a disability

Programmes

  • All undergraduate programmes within the Science Faculty.

£4,000 per academic year to help support tuition fees, living costs, all other costs of study and career/leadership development opportunities

Each year of undergraduate programme (up to a maximum of four years)

Please note that yearly renewal of your scholarship will be dependent upon you achieving an average weighted mean mark of 50% (equivalent to a 2:2) at the end of each academic year.
