Durham University Expeditions Group
The Covid-19 (coronavirus) infection has been declared a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organisation. The health and wellbeing of our students and colleagues is our top priority and we are working hard across the University community to prepare for the possible spread of the virus, provide up to date information and advice and offer support as the situation develops. Please see: https://www.dur.ac.uk/coronavirus/ for full details. Given this unprecedented situation and international travel restrictions, applicants to the Expedition Group for funding should be aware that it is highly unlikely that the Expedition Group will be able to sponsor any Expeditions this coming summer. We will monitor the situation and update this site when we can. Please stay safe. Dave Roberts and Bob Baxter (Expeditions Group) The Group are able to provide advice, guidance and financial support to undergraduate and postgraduate students who wish to undertake organised research-based expeditions to locations outside Western Europe. The available funds are provided due to the generous donations of alumni to the Durham University Student Opportunities Fund. If you are interested in applying and would like to learn more please attend the presentation evening in November where you will be able to meet current recipients and learn about their experiences. Full details included on the poster below. Please note students should not travel to any part of the world that the Foreign and Commonwealth Office designate as “advising against all travel to” as at https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice. Funding will not be allocated to a student who wishes to travel to an area which may endanger their safety. |

A significant amount of the funding available to students to support their extra-curricular interests and personal development has been made possible from the generous donations of the University's Alumni. To ensure that this support continues in the future current students are needed to work on the Annual Giving Programme telephone fundraising campaign. If you would be interested in giving your time to help future students and in return gain some valuable experience as well as financial incentives, please contact the Development and Alumni Relations Office.
