Marshall Scholarships

Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom. Up to fifty Scholars are selected each year to study at graduate level at an UK institution in any field of study.

This Scholarship is for Graduate Study in any subject at either Masters or Doctoral level at the University of Durham and will be for up to two years (with a possibility of a third year for doctoral studies). If awarded a Durham Marshall Scholarship candidates would be expected to study at the University of Durham. If awarded a Durham Marshall Scholarship candidates would be expected to study at the University of Durham.

  • A personal living allowance (stipend) of £1,236
  • Fares to and from the United States
  • Claimable allowance for approved travel, books, exam preparation, shipping of property.

Eligibility

Geographical CriteriaApplicants must be citizens of the United States of America (at the time they apply for a scholarship) and hold their first undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the United States

How to apply

  1. Complete your Durham University application

    Submit an online postgraduate academic application directly to Durham University. Provide confirmation of your Marshall Scholarship application to colleagues in our admissions service.

  2. Complete a Marsall scholarship application

    The deadlines for the 2024 Marshall Competition are: 26 September 2023 for applicants and recommenders at 5:00pm in the time zone your university is located. 28 September 2023 for endorsement and submission by US Institution at 5:00pm in the time zone your university is located.

     

    Shortlisted candidates will be notified if they have been selected for interview by early- mid November.
