Durham University

Choosing a College

When you join the University you will become a member of one of our 17 colleges and you may also be able to live in one of our colleges. There is so much to get involved in within the colleges and so many benefits you will gain from college membership and from being resident in a college. If you are holding an offer we will contact you in April to ask you to express a college preference.

We are providing two student-led virtual events which should help to guide you on choosing a college. These session will provide a brief overview of what its like to live in and be a member of a college. There will be a short 5-10 minute introduction from staff who will talk about how the allocation system works, with the rest of the session dedicated to our postgraduate students answering your questions about their college experience.

You might also find this presentation from our open day helpful.

These events will be held on Microsoft Live. This platform allows you to see and hear our staff and student panel and ask us questions via the Q and A pane. We will send full joining instructions to all booked attendees.

The virtual events will take place on Friday 26 March at 11am-12pm (GMT) and Monday 29 March at 4-5pm (BST).
