Research

Sharon’s research explores effective interprofessional working (IPW) across health and social care to promote physical activity (PA) for adults with disabilities, an area with limited research beyond primary care. By combining the experiences of social workers and medical professionals (e.g., occupational therapists, community nurses, and healthcare support workers), the study identifies key facilitators and barriers to IPW. Using a qualitative case study approach with semi-structured interviews and focus groups, data will be analysed through Reflexive Thematic Analysis to reveal patterns in collaborative practice. Findings will inform practical resources to support professionals in integrating PA promotion into daily practice, enhance continuous professional development (CPD) and interprofessional education (IPE), and contribute to the Moving Social Work (MSW) initiative.
