Johannes Sauerland joined SGIA as a NINE DTP scholar in Fall 2020.
In his doctoral research, Johannes examines the political impact of fear on conflict in the Middle East. He does so by exploring group and cultural fear in the Israeli-Palestinian relations drawing on a wide range of approaches to social psychology, including psychological constructivism.
Before joining SGIA as a doctoral candidate, Johannes completed an MSc in Arab World Studies at Durham University. Johannes also holds a MA in International Relations from Goethe-University Frankfurt. Johannes previously worked for German Development Cooperation (GIZ) and the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF) in several countries of the Middle East, including Jordan, Israel/Palestine, and Lebanon.
