Bailey Renovations 2019
When you arrive in Durham you will find that work is in progress to renovate the Society’s properties on the Bailey. The work began at the end of the last term and is expected to last until November. House 12, Cuth’s main building at the Bailey site, dates from 1680, so you can appreciate that at times major overhauls are required.
The 1.5 million pound programme of works has included the refurbishment of all windows, this means that Cuth’s Bailey buildings will be a lot less draughty, and warmer and quieter. By the time you arrive all the internal works will have been completed. However some external work to repair masonry, replace render and refurbish roofs will still be ongoing. This means that many of the Bailey buildings will have scaffolding around them and this may continue for some of the first term. I am sure that you will appreciate that these works are necessary and we will ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum. We will also provide you with regular updates here, through the weekly College Bulletin and via the Society’s social media.
