St Cuthbert's Society

Gardens & Buildings

Bailey Site

Happily situated at the end of the historic, cobbled 'Bailey' in the the heart of Durham, our fully-catered Bailey site is a short walk from everywhere in Durham; only a few minutes' walk from the Cathedral, city centre, Parson's Field site and an easy stroll to all faculty buildings. St Cuthbert's Society occupies Houses 12, 13, 8, 9, 26 and 27 and the affectionately named 'Wendy House', offering students the opportunity to live in the historic centre of the prestigious University city.

The Houses are adjoined to beautiful lawns and gardens reserved for student use, providing plenty of space for outdoor activities, and which frequently play host to social events. This is also the location of the student canteen and one of our two student bars, both available for use by all members of the Society.

As one of only five Durham colleges to offer accommodation on the Bailey, St Cuthbert's Society is proud to boast so much space in such a picturesque setting.

Parsons Field Site

Nestled on the outskirts of the Maiden Castle Wood, our Parsons Field Site has breathtaking views of the river and surrounding countryside, whilst still remaining a convenient ten minute walk from the Bailey, city centre, faculty buildings and University Sports Centre.

Equipped with modern kitchens, a cardio gym, and – in many cases – ensuite bathrooms, the Parsons Field site offers students comfort and convenience during their stay at University. The outdoor space boasts plenty of greenery, a courtyard with a barbequeue and seating, and disabled parking, whilst a common room and a second bar can be found indoors.

The site comprises of Brooks House, Refounders House, Fonteyn Court and Parsons Field Court and is home to both Freshers and returning students.
