St Aidan’s College has a great tradition of sport. Amongst our sports teams we have many that excel in the top college divisions, across a range of sports. We have both men's and women's Rugby, Rowing, Football, Netball and Hockey. We also have thriving Darts, Pool, Table Tennis, Cricket, Basketball, Tennis, Badminton, Squash and Ultimate Frisbee teams who practice and play in University wide matches at least once a week. All of our teams are successful; this year our rugby team won the Durham Collegiate Trophy.
All sports at Aidan's are played an attitude of inclusion, giving people the opportunity to try sports they have never played before, and play sociably, yet get to a decent standard quickly. If you have a different sports interest from these, you will have the option to begin a team of your own with the support of the JCR.
Outside of Aidan’s, much of your sporting activities will take place at The Graham Sports Centre which has excellent facilities. The local swimming baths is also an excellent way of keeping fit and is within easy reach in the centre of Durham.
Aidan's College Ski Trip
Every year in January the students organise a College Ski Trip which takes about 50 Aidanites away for a 10 day holiday in the mountains. In the past we have taken trips to Les Arcs, Pra Loup and Andorra. The holiday is always fantastic with a great sense of camaraderie and is perfect for both learner and more advanced skiers. After the slopes shut the ‘après ski’ is always memorable and the source of many a great night.
