Durham lies 18 miles south of Newcastle. The easiest way to get here is to take the A1(M) and leave at junction 61 or junction 62.The AA Route Planner will plan your whole route for you and Streetmap.co.uk provide a good interactive map of Durham.
St. Aidan's College is a 5 minute taxi ride (about £3) from Durham Station. All the taxi drivers know Aidan's college, so you won't need to give them directions. Alternatively, if you're carrying light luggage, the walk from the Station through town is picturesque and will take about 30 minutes. There is a tourist map on the platform.
The city is well served by long-distance coaches, regional express services and the local bus network.
There are ferry services from the River Tyne to Scandinavian ports and Hamburg.
DFDS Seaways sail to Holland, Norway and Sweden.
