Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship

We are delighted to announce the introduction of The Vice-Chancellor's Scholarships. The scholarships are aimed at supporting students from the North East who have been active in student and/or community life and who are looking to enhance their knowledge and skills with a Durham University Degree.

At least 2 Vice-Chancellor's Scholarships, worth £2,000 per year, are available to applicants commencing an undergraduate programme at Durham University in October 2017.

Further details are provided in the sections below.

  • In receipt of an academic offer from Durham University to read an undergraduate programme commencing in October 2017.
  • Permanently resident in the North East - defined as having a postcode commencing - DH, DL, NE, SR or TS;
  • Have a household income below £30,000;
  • Have been active in student and/or community life - organised or taken part voluntarily in an activity to support fellow students or the community


£2,000 per academic year.


The scholarship can be held for the duration of your undergraduate programme.

Application window closes:

31st August 2017

Applicants will be notified of the outcome by:

30th September 2017

Applicants who meet the eligibilty criteria will be put forward to the Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship panel who will consider your contribution to student/community life, information in your personal statement, reference, along with your academic potential when reaching their decision.

Please note that other scholarships, awards and bursaries may be taken into account by the selection panel.
